Restructuring in Cyprus
Corporate restructuring covers financial and operational reorganisation of Cyprus companies facing performance challenges, debt pressure, or strategic change. Services range from informal turnaround planning to formal insolvency procedures under the Companies Law framework. Cyprus offers structured Examinership as a formal reorganisation option.
Restructuring options
Cyprus restructuring options range across a spectrum: informal turnaround planning (management-led operational and financial improvement), consensual debt restructuring (negotiations with lenders and creditors outside formal process), Schemes of Arrangement under Section 198 of the Companies Law (court-sanctioned creditor arrangements), formal Examinership (analogous to US Chapter 11), receivership (secured creditor enforcement), and voluntary or compulsory liquidation.
Examinership
Cyprus Examinership (introduced in 2015) provides court protection for viable companies facing financial distress. Under Examinership, an Examiner is appointed by the court, existing management typically continues under supervision, creditor actions are stayed for up to 4 months (extendable to 6), and a rescue plan is developed and put to creditors for vote. If approved, the company emerges from Examinership; otherwise, liquidation follows.

Frequently asked questions
What is Cyprus Examinership?
Cyprus Examinership is a court-supervised corporate rescue procedure providing viable but financially distressed companies with protection from creditor actions while a rescue plan is developed. Similar in concept to US Chapter 11 or UK Administration, it aims to preserve going concern value rather than liquidate.
